Lakdanavi
to the rescue
While the Ministry of Power and Energy has invited tenders for the establishment of thermal power plants with 100MW of installed capacity. A press release issued by the Ministry of Power and Energy stated that 'Lakdanavi' has taken steps to strengthen the power supply system of the Ceylon Electricity Board with a thermal power plant of 10MW capacity under the 'Emergency Supply of Electricity Program' to meet the present power crisis. Thus 'Lakdanavi' has become the first company to join this Emergency Power Supply Program implemented by the Ministry of Power and Energy under the '100 Day program' of the government. This thermal power plant started to add its Generation to national Grid on last 21st. The Ceylon Electricity Board purchases one unit of electricity generated by this thermal power plant at Rs. 5.97 which is the lowest rate that the CEB has ever paid. This power plant adds 240,000 units to the national grid per day. The present power supply difficulties will be reasonably lessened, once these thermal power plants commence generation during next March. |
