Muslim delegates meet PM
A delegation of the Muslim community led by Colombo District MP and Western Province Development Minister M.H. Mohamed, met the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to express the appreciation of the Muslim Community of the MoU signed by the government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE.Following is the text by Mr. M.H. Mohamed:
"We appreciate and congratulate the Government of Sri Lanka on the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE in order to restore peace in the Country.
"In this context the Muslims of Sri Lanka are deeply concerned of the future of the community. Our immediate need is that the Government should provide necessary relief and assistance to the Muslims displaced in the North and East to return and take possession of their rightful properties.
"A number of representations have been made to me that a collective body representing the Muslim community should be established to make representations on behalf of the Muslims.
"We would therefore the Government of Sri Lanka to take necessary steps to establish this Committee/Council so that any matters concerning the Muslim community could be represented through them direct.
We feel that it is very important that the Committee/Council should be consulted and are a part of the discussions particularly in the immediate future prior to the finalisation of the Peace Agreement.
