Ranaviru Mela-2002 at Vihara Maha Devi Park by Vernon Perera Ranaviru Mela - 2002, an exhibition staged by the Ex-Servicemens' Association of Sri Lanka (SLESA) in association with the Army, Navy and Air Force, and supported by the Ministry of Defense, will be held at the Vihara Maha Devi Park, Colombo from March 8 to 13. This was announced by Air Vice Marshal Harry Goonatilleke, Chairman Organising Committee, at a media conference held at the Ex-Servicemens' Association, Colombo on February 26. "The proceeds of this historic event, will be used to help needy and destitute ex-servicemen as well as pay for the education of deserving pre-school and primary children of servicemen who have sacrificed their lives for the country, the Air Marshal said. The showpiece of this exhibition is the ground display of the three Services from 9.30 in the morning daily until 10.30 in the night, where they will be exhibiting sophisticated military equipment and other hardware of educational value to school children. Profits of this "Mela" will go to 26 Associations which has a strength of 35,000 members who will benefit. Capt. Patrick Jayasinghe, Chairman Media Committee, General Harry H. de Silva, Lt. General Dennis Perera and Rear Admiral D.B. Goonesekera were also present at the conference. |
