Police bare underworld empire

Kaduwela Vasantha, the notorious underworld figure who was gunned down on Vesak Poya Day along with six other gangsters and Karate Dhammika and his gang who were arrested over the killings earned around Rs. 60 million a month through extortion money from legal and illegal business ventures, Police investigations have revealed.

Ministry to provide relief to consumers

The Commerce and Consumer Affairs Ministry has taken the necessary measures to provide relief to the consumers who suffer with the recent fuel hike. A senior official from the Ministry said that they had already begun some relief programs with a price control of all consumer goods to help the common people.
