IGP to act on PM's and President's orders by ANTON NONIS The Inspector General of Police, T. E. Anandarajah acting on the instructions of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga over any LTTE law courts and police stations in the North and East told the 'Sunday Observer' that he will eliminate any police stations and courts anytime, now or even in the future, if they are operating in government controlled areas. The government was compelled to carry out a thorough check in this regard when it was reported that the LTTE was operating law courts and police stations in the North and the East that are under the jurisdiction of the Sri Lanka government. IGP Anandarajah said that Deputy Inspectors General in those two areas were advised to investigate into this. It has been confirmed that no LTTE law court or police station had been detected in the two areas. The investigation is not yet over, however, in addition, jungle areas are also being checked to ascertain whether law courts or police stations are operating secretly in those areas. |
