Police Commission : Retired police officers to submit inputs by Ramani Kangaraarachchi "Members of the Retired Police Officer's Association recently submitted a proposal that they would like to contribute their inputs to the forthcoming Police Commission in order to help formulate regulations and, if necessary, to bring in a new Police Act. The paper they presented was very useful in keeping with present requirements, and we would like to bring in one or two members from the ISF for the advisory board in the near future". Minister of the Interior, John Amaratunga, said addressing the gathering at the Galle Face Hotel on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary and Awards Nite of the Industrial Security Foundation on Friday. He assured those present that he would correct whatever deficiencies that exist within the administrative section of his ministry in order to make the ISF a scientific and professional project as the State would not have enough time to do so. He said that the ministry had more resources now and it would now be looking into the registration and supervision of all security agencies.Appreciating the work of the ISF, the minister added that any organisation which was secure would tend to increase its productivity level as it paved the way for the creativity and entrepreneurship which was vital for the forward march of the nation. He said that industrial security was the precursor to industrial peace. He pointed out that the role played by the private security agencies was now an intergal part of industrial security, but these institutions should fall in line with international devlopments taking place in the field of security and related areas. The title of 'Fellow' was conferred on 26 of the founder life members while several Corprate members also received due recognition at the ISF's first ever award ceremony. Retired DIG and founder President of the ISF, Edward Gunawardena, a former Director at Lake House, was the first to receive the award from Minister Amaratunga. ISF President Asoka Wijetilake (SSP) also spoke. |
