All preparations are under way for the mega musical concert next Saturday at Parliament grounds, where UB40, the living legends of reggae music will perform live, here in Sri Lanka, turning a new page in country's Music history. The basic ground preparation works of the concert got under way on Friday at the Parliamentary grounds, with the commencement of the construction works of the giant stage under supervision of the UB40's sound engineers, a Commerce Ministry communique said.

The organisers said that all Rs. 15,000 tickets were sold out by the weekend and only 5,000, 2,500 and 300 rupees tickets will be available during the week.

The group is expected to arrive on Wednesday at 1.55 p.m. at the Katunayake airport by SriLankan Air flight 104 and would be escorted to the Galadari Hotel.

On Thursday, Dec. 12 they will participate at a media conference and on Friday, they would rehearse and a last minute check on their instruments and sounds before the concert on Saturday, which will kick off from 7.30 p.m. onwards.

The Peace Concert 2002 was organised under the auspicious of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Ministry, in response to a proposal made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to Minister Ravi Karunanayake, as a part of the plan to reposition Sri Lanka in the global map, in the aftermath of the two decades of civil war which came to an end through peaceful negotiations.

Meanwhile, the UB40 announced in London that they are also pleased to take part in the peace process by performing in Sri Lanka. "We are looking forward to visiting Sri Lanka and performing for the pleasure of all Sri Lankans. We are keen to see that the Peace Process will be successful and will bring permanent peace to the country in the not too distant future. At a time like this when a nation is celebrating the Peace Process we are very happy to be a part of it", the band said.
