HRC workshop for Eelam judiciary In a path-breaking move the Human Rights Commission of (HRC) is conducting a three-day workshop on International Human Rights Law for judges of Tamil Eelam judiciary in Kilinochchi. S. Pararajasingham, Chief Executive of the Tamil Eelam Judiciary inaugurating the workshop on Friday pledged the co-operation and the support of the LTTE in maintaining human rights. The workshop, the first ever of this nature to be held in Kilinochchi, is being held on the request of the Tamil Eelam Judiciary and is sponsored by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). Pararajasingham told the Sunday Observer that the workshop gave LTTE judges the opportunity to explain in detail their judicial system and the human rights aspects carried out in areas controlled by the LTTE. "We give importance for rights of women and children and our judicial system is playing a vital role in upholding those rights" he said. Pararajasingham said they also benefited to a greater extent by knowing the latest developments in maintaining human rights aspects both locally and internationally. The three -day workshop being held at the Tamil Eelam Court Complex in Kilinochchi will conclude today. Thirty five judicial officials and twenty lawyers of the Tamil Eelam legal fraternity are taking part in the workshop.The HRC is being represented by Senaka Dissanayake and Ruwan Chandrasekara. |
