Accolade for 'Sinhaputhra'

by S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy South Group Correspondent

Sinhaputhra Finance Company Limited, a leading finance institution in the hill capital, celebrating its silver Jubilee brought honour to the home town when it clinched the second place in the Finance Company sector for its Annual Report for 2003-04.

This competition is annually organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka in conjunction with the Public Enterprise Department of the General Treasury and the Colombo Stock Exchange.

Over the years, the competition has become increasingly stiff with leading 'finance houses' competing for awards resulting in more or less a battle for supremacy with those institutions giving out their best in their bid to win the prestigious awards.

The Chairman and Managing Director of Sinhaputhra Finance Limited, Kithsiri Wanigasekera, said that the achievement was indeed very special for Sinhaputhra since the effort was totally internal. The resources and skills of the senior management and operations management guided by the board of directors helped achieve this milestone making it a personal victory for the dedicated staff.

"Utilising a wide range of technical skills required for the smooth functioning of the company, Sinhaputhra prides itself with an efficient and dedicated team of 80 employees. The company places high emphasis on good corporate governance practices. At the end of February 2004, the total assets of the company stood in excess of 1.4 billion strengthened by a public depositor base of over Rs. 900 million," said Wanigasekera.

Joint Managing Director, Ravana Wijeyeratna, received the award on behalf of the team at Sinhaputhra from the chief guest at the ceremony, Peter Harold, the Country Director, World Bank.

The board of directors of the Sinhaputhra Finance Limited comprises, Kithsiri Wanigasekera (Chairman/Managing Director), Ravana Wijeyeratne, Joint Managing Director, Parakrama Keppetipola, Legal Consultant, K. H. G. Wijayadasa, Mohan Weerakoon, Ms. Chintha Bibile, Dr. Cuda Wijeyaratne and Consultant and Partner, E & Y Duminda Hulangamuwa.
