Industrial Excellence Awards ceremony July 16 by Hiran H. Senewiratne The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) expects more than 100 companies to participate at its third annual Industrial Excellence Awards ceremony ,to be held on July 16. CNCI Chairman, Ranjith Hettiarchchy, told the media that the competition would help to attract over 100 companies in the country including the SAARC region. The main objective of this competition was to boost the local industrialists by recognising and rewarding them at national level. It would also unearth the latent talents of industrialists in rural villages for the economic development of the country, Hettiarchchy added. Organising Committee Chairman and CNCI Senior Vice President, A.K Ratnarajah, said that this annual event would be attended by a large number of industrialists in SAARC countries and their excellence would be rewarded and recognised at this glittering ceremony. According to Ratnarajah, human resource development, quality and productivity would be taken into consideration when evaluating the participating companies and selecting winners. Winners will be selected in four categories namely large, medium, small and micro, and participants could vie for honours at provincial and national level. The national awards in four categories include large, micro, medium and small.The applicants for the provincial awards will also be considered for the national awards', according to the CNCI. A special feature of the awards ceremony was to recognise local industrialists who had set up manufacturing units in any SAARC country on their own or as joint ventures, where the total investment was over 59 per cent and the management handled by a Sri Lankan.The CNCI would offer each SAARC regional country chamber to nominate an outstanding industrialist to be recognised at the event.
