Automation to enhance efficiency Automation is a 'buzz word' in all fields and with it are related efficiency and reduced costs. National Instruments (NI), a US computer based measurements and automation company, in a strategic alliance with Sabre Technologies (pvt) Ltd and M3 Force, the local partner, introduced computer based automated solutions to apparel, tea and food and beverages sectors. At a press briefing, Managing Director of National Instruments in India, Jayaram Pillai, said that it was a good opportunity for those working with manual machines to understand that computer based automation solutions would not only increase productivity, but also reduce costs and minimise waste of raw materials. With the alliance of local partners, the NI could provide hardware and software tools and expertise to develop IT based concept solutions needed for various local requirements. Sri Lanka's apparel, tea, food and beverage and other important sectors could be further developed by using real time automated technology to ensure higher productivity. The CEO, M3 Force, Manju Gunawardana, said that his company under its group was mainly operating NI local activities such as agency support and logistical and marketing support. With the state- of- the-art hardware and software technology, the company would act as a main facilitator in the industrial sector to achieve productivity with NI. NI chose some of the leading companies such as Motorola, Nokia, Toyota, Honda, Microsoft IBM, Agilent Technologies and Sony. Eighty-five per cent of fortune 500 manufacturing companies had adopted NI virtual instrumentation. NI directed operations in 40 countries with 1,000 products and 3,000 employees working on it. |
