SriLankan Airlines gifts books to rural school children SriLankan Airlines continued its social contribution campaigns with the distribution of 30,000 exercise books to 3,000 children in 14 rural schools throughout the country in January. A similar project was carried out early last year in which books were presented to 2,000 students of schools in remote areas in the Kandy, Galle and Kurunegala districts. One important aspect of the latest project is that it was widened in scope to include many more children and schools in several more districts. These included four districts in the North-East. The project, which was organised by the Airline's Public Relations Department, saw SriLankan's nine ticket offices and general sales agencies identifying the most needy schools in remote areas in the nine districts of Matale, Batticaloa, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Badulla, Trincomalee, Kandy, Galle and Jaffna. The schools that were covered in the project were: Bellan Oya Viduhala, Inamaluwa, Dambulla, Vandaramoolai Maha Vishnu Vidyalaya, Batticaloa, Munihirigama Junior School, Hettipola, Kurunegla, Dampitiya Primary School, Hettipola, Kurunegala, Guyrenagam Maha Vidyalaya, Wewelwatte, Ratnapura, Pusellakanda Maha Vidyalaya, Badulla, Peruntheru Vigneswara Maha Vidylayam, Trincomalee, Kanniya G.T.M.S., Thiriyai Maha Vidyalayam, Trincomalee, Kappalthurai Tamil Vidyalayam, Trincomalee, Uyrapulam M.M.T.M.
