Seylan Bank among Asian Banking awards Seylan Bank, well known for its dynamic and progressive banking practices, had been rewarded at the Asian Banking Awards 2004, Asia's most prestigious banking awards program, as the runner-up in the "Operational Efficiency Program" category. The bank's entry based on the operational excellence of its dynamic Treasury Division was among 107 entries from 49 banks in 15 countries vying for awards. The most outstanding entry under the "Operational Efficiency Program" category went to Singapore's OCBC Bank for its "Process Redesign for Letter of Credit Issuance Policy". Given the quality of the performance of the bank's Treasury Division and the resulting operational excellence, it is small wonder that regional recognition has been achieved for a vital division of the bank's core business. Seylan Bank won its first international award at the Asian Banking Awards 2001 for its project "Govisarupatha" - Credit Card for Farmers under "Micro Credit Project or Program" category. This was followed by a runner-up award the bank obtained at the Asian Forum on Corporate Responsibility under the "Poverty Alleviation" category titled "Comprehensive Micro Finance for Micro Sector Empowerment". Having been listed as number 4 by LMD magazine and as number 3 by Business Today magazine in their corporate ranking of business organizations in Sri Lanka, the Business Today Magazine described the bank's performance as being "way above the industry performance and that its success could be mainly attributed to its focus, the willingness to do things differently and to add value for customers unlike any other financial institution". |
