Fast track immigration at BIA A 'Fast Track' immigration channel is now in place at the Bandaranaike International Airport for Business Class passengers arriving on all flights, to afford them greater convenience and rapid passage through immigration formalities. The Fast Track was set up by Immigration, initiated by SriLankan Airlines to the Advisory Committee on Immigration and Emigration. SriLankan Airlines provides airport and ground handling services for all airlines operating through BIA. "It is hoped to extend this service to departures at some point in the future when the number of departure counters will also be doubled," said Walter J. Riggans, Head of Services Delivery at SriLankan, who serves on the Advisory Committee. Business Class passengers now receive invitation cards on board from cabin staff, advising them of the Fast Track channel. When they disembark, they are escorted to the channel by staff of the Airport Service Department of SriLankan Airlines. The channel operates around the clock, 365 days of the year. "The new channel certainly helps by providing greater convenience for Business Class passengers, especially during peak hours such as in the mornings when BIA has up to eight arrivals in an hour," said Ingrid Guruge, Manager Airport Service Delivery. Business Class passengers may also use any of the regular immigration channels, if there are no queues. |
