Mirage who over the years has maintained high standards of professionalism is led by drummer Donald Pieris, and the other members are, like we all know, Gavin Senn on saxophone, Kamal Perera - guitar, Melantha Perera - guitar/bass guitar and Chamal Rodrigo - keyboards. What is significant about this tight knit and talented band is that all the members sing which gives the band an extra thrust. The big advantage is that all of them are multi-instrumentalists, and they switch, instruments with perfect ease, and that means there's a lot of variety in style. One time Golden Clef Award winners, Mirage has a wide repertoire including the contemporary Top 40 hits. Meeting up with Donald Pieris the other day was quite refreshing. We learnt that he was considering some offers to play in Dubai again, but has not committed himself. In the meantime Mirage is planning to have a special one and half hour show containing the music they were specially recognised for over the years as well as their sophisticated arrangements of music from the '70s to date. |
