Relief for NHDA defaulters The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) has rationalised the system of levying surcharges from occupants in houses and shops who have defaulted payment of monthly installments. Housing and Construction Industry Minister Ferial Ashraff has instructed the NHDA management to comply with this request. A spokesman for the Authority said that the rates of discounts offered for pre-payment to NHDA will also be revised to induce the installment payers to settle the dues on easy and affordable terms. For the number of installments defaulted, a surcharge 5 to 10 per cent for those months was levied at present. The spokesman said that this decision had been taken to assist the defaulters who were mainly occupying low-income housing schemes and the surcharge had been reduced to 2 per cent for houses and 5 per cent for shops. The Authority has also decided to grant a discount of 2 per cent on cash payment for the relevant monthly installment at the office. This facility will also be provided for payment made through bank drafts and recoveries from salaries within the specified period. (DPL) |
