Assistance sought for kidney transplant Mrs. S.F. Jayah, aged 59 years, of 55/9/A, Gemunu Mawatha, Subuthipura, Battaramulla is suffering from advanced chronic kidney failure and the only life saving measure recommended by Prof. Rizvi Sheriff, Consultant Physician and Nephrologist, is a kidney transplant. Her daughter has consented to donate one of her kidneys to save her life. The recommended Therapy is Haemodialysis treatment, donor workup, tissue typing and kidney transplant which will cost approximately Rs. 400,000/- and, after the surgery, she will need approximately Rs. 30,000/- per month for about one year followed by approximately Rs. 2,000/- per month for the rest of her life for follow-up drugs. Since her family says they are unable to meet the entire cost, they have appealed for donors willing to help and assist in this cause to expedite the surgery. Consultant Cardiac Electrophysiologist Dr. Asanga Dunuville of National Hospital, Colombo has recommended an implantation of a special dual chamber permanent pacemaker to cure this condition. The approximate cost of this pacemaker is Rs. 5,50,000 and the poor parents of this child are unable to foot this bill due to their abject poverty condition.
