The Leader of the LTTE Velupillai Prabhaharan in a statement issued on
the occasion of Heroes' Day, made an urgent appeal to the Government to
resume the peace negotiations based on the ISGA proposals. It warned the
government it would be compelled to advance the freedom struggle of their
people, if the government delays negotiations.
President's Iran visit brings economic gains
Iran will supply oil to Sri Lanka on a subsidised grant scheme which is
favourable to Sri Lanka. This follows an agreement signed between Iranian
President Mohammed Khatami and President Chandrika Bandaranaike
Kumaratunga during latter's official visit to Teheran early this week.
