Japanese raise funds for tsunami orphans People of Japanese town, Ikeda and Prefecture of Gifu have committed 650,000 rupees for the welfare of tsunami orphans in Hambantota. The donation was made possible by hard work of Zulfy Thajudeen, who was holidaying in Sri Lanka when the tsunami struck the island. Thajudeen on his return to Japan joined hands with his friends of the NPO Organisation to collect donations for the tsunami orphaned Sri Lankan children. "Every time I look at my 1 1/2 year-old-son, I just can't help my heart bleeding for the thousands who lost their loved ones and children," Thajudeen wrote to the Sunday Observer. This money has been channelled to the Conference of Sri Lankan Malays (COSLAM) who have been in the forefront of tsunami relief work in Hambantota. The COSLAM has already identified 83 orphans and 45 of their guardians to receive financial assistance. |
