L. B. Wijayasiri in Kandy

"Dalada Thewawa", performing of rituals at Dalada Maligawa, Kandy will be handed over by Asgiriya Maha Vihara Chapter to Malwatta Mahavihara Chapter on Friday July 22 following the Esala Poya Day.

Every year the performing of Thewawa changes hands between Asgiriya and Malwatta Mahavihara Chapters. Asgiriya Maha Vihara Chapter was in charge of 'Thewawa' from Esala full moon day previous year.

Most Ven. Udugama Sri Ratnapala Buddharakkhitha Mahanayaka Thera of Asgiriya Chapter was in charge of the Thewawa this year (this traditional service in reverence to the Sacred Tooth Relic) will be handed over to most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayaka Thera of Malwatta Mahavihara Chapter on Friday 22 by Mahanayaka Thera of Asgiriya Chapter.

Keys to both Ihalamale (upper floor) and Pahalamale (lower floor) of Dalada Maligawa along with an inventory of valuables will also be handed over to Malwatta Maha Nayaka Thera by Asgiriya Mahanayaka Thera on this occasion.
