Working towards harmony A program titled 'Twinning Village' has been implemented by the People's Peace Front (PPF) with the collaboration of FLICT to foster peace among communities in the border villages affected by war. In this pilot program three houses in each North and South border villages were selected from Medawachchiya, Nochchiyagama, Kebithigollewa in Anuradhapura district and Arali, Tottam in Jaffna District and the Sri Gayaathri Amman orphanage for the victims of the war, at Misaalai of Chavakachcheri in Jaffna District. The reconstruction of those selected houses affected by the war, was the first move of this project and according to the participants their efforts were fruitful. In this program the Tamils from the North and the Sinhalese from the South exchanged their labour working together during a period of one week which helped to establish harmony, closeness, and mutual trust. |
