Technical school for tsunami-affected children A technical school for the tsunami-affected children will be established in Talduwa, Waskaduwa in Kalutara District at a cost of Rs. 20m. This technical school will be constructed on a two-acre land donated by PINA Charity's Chairman Anura Abegunasekera, a Sri Lankan born German citizen, and his wife Uta Abegunasekera. The foundation for the building will be laid on July 26. Abegunasekera told the Sunday Observer that this technical school would recruit 40 students from the area and provide free meals and lodging during the course of study. The PINA branch in the German state of Bavaria would provide necessary funding. He said that German, French and British tutors would conduct the courses that include motor mechanism. Abegunasekera who is involved in the travel trade said that more than 100 German tourists who visited Sri Lanka were members of PINA. He said that his charity had already donated millions of rupees worth of X-ray machines and equipment to Homagama and Panadura hospitals. Members of PINA Bavarian branch visited Sri Lanka and provided relief assistance to the tsunami-affected people in several districts. ANCL Chairman, Janadasa Peiris will lay the foundation stone for the technical school building. (MPM) |
