COMBank takes Holiday Banking to Bangladesh

The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has introduced Holiday Banking to Bangladesh by converting its branch at Dhanmondi to a 365-day facility, the first of its kind in that country.

The Commercial Bank was also the first bank to introduce Holiday Banking to Sri Lanka, where the Bank now provides this service at 14 locations, including Colombo 7, Negombo, 9 'MiniCom' centres and 3 Arpico Service Points.

Commercial Bank's Managing Director Amitha Gooneratne said: "We are proud to have introduced this service in Bangladesh just two years after we entered the country. We expect a very favourable response to this move."

The Holiday Banking service in Bangladesh is mainly intended to serve personal customers and offers facilities such as encashment of personal cheques, withdrawals from Savings Accounts, opening of all types of accounts and financial advisory services.

The Holiday Banking service is frequently used by tourists who need to encash currency or traveller's cheques and by people travelling overseas on short notice.

The Commercial Bank of Ceylon entered the Bangladeshi market in 2003, when it acquired Credit Agricole Indosuez (CAI) operations in Bangladesh consisting of two branches in Dhaka and Chittagong and two booths in Gulshan and Sonargaon. Commercial Bank later opened one more branch at Dhanmondi and has introduced several new services to that country.

The Bank has been rated the 'Best Bank in Sri Lanka' and the 'Bank of the Year' in Sri Lanka by two prestigious international publications, the US based "Global Finance" for the last seven consecutive years and the UK's "The Banker" magazine for the last four consecutive years.
