Ashok Leyland, Caltex Lubricants set up service centres

by W. T. J. S. Kaviratne, Ambalangoda Special Correspondent

Lanka Ashok Leyland Ltd. and Caltex Lubricants Lanka Ltd has set up state-of-the-art service centres in the provinces to provide a quick and efficient service for the fast growing fleet of Ashok Leyland vehicles in Sri Lanka.

The ceremonial commissioning of the newly built Ashok Leyland and Star Lube Caltex Service Centre took place at Meetiyagoda in the Ambalangoda electorate.

General Manager - Exports C. S. Subramaniyam representing Ashok Leyland, Chennai, India said that the service centres were set up to facilitate the fleet owners of Ashok Leyland and upgrade the services of the vehicles.

The local workshops are known as Highway Repair Centres (HRCs). Every Ashok Leyland vehicle owner is issued a number of special coupons to obtain free services from the newly established "Ashok Leyland Star Lube Caltex Service" centres.

Regional Manager of Caltex Lubricants Lanka Ltd. Asanka Kularatne said that Lanka Ashok Leyland and Lanka Caltex Lubricants could together transform the image of the service centres.

In view of the soot-covered untidy appearance of the workforce attending to the services of vehicles, a special uniform was introduced, he said.

All drivers of Ashok Leyland buses and lorries would be given a training on Road Ethics with the cooperation of the police.

Referring to the role played by Ashok Leyland in the Public Transport System, he said 75 per cent of Sri Lanka's buses were made by the Ashok Leyland Company in India while 18 point vehicle checks were done free by Star Lube Caltex in these service centres.

These service centres were equipped with modern tools for testing brake-fluid, automatic fluid transmissions and checking tyre pressure, he said.

Deputy Manager Exports, Ashok Leyland Vipin Ohri, General Manager, Lanka Ashok Leyland, Umesh Gautam, Deputy Manager, Lanka Ashok Leyland, Sugath Weerakoon and the Managing Director of the Meetiyagoda, Service Centre of Ashok Leyland and Star Lube Caltex Bandula Dissanayake also participated.
