Permanency for 25,000 graduate trainees

The Government will give 25,000 permanent appointments to the graduate trainees in the education sector this month.

Finance Deputy Minister Ranjith Siyabalapitiya told the Sunday Observer that already 10,000 graduates have been absorbed to the public service and another 25,000 will be absorbed this month.

Of the 25,000 trainees, 20,000 will be teachers and other 5,000 trainees for administrative work in the education field.

The Deputy Minister said that the other 7,000 graduates will be given permanency in two months. When asked about the delay, Deputy Minister Siyabalapitiya said that the recruitment process was complicated because many trainees had applied for more than ten vacancies and also they had to meet public service recruitment procedure. "Therefore, we had to sort out all these issues", he noted. (JSN)
