Ayurvedha quacks openly flout rules by Chanuka Mannapperuma Bogus doctorates or degrees conferred on the indigenous medical practitioners by various institutions and organisations will not be recognised by the Ayurvedha Medical Council (AMC), a communique issued by the Ayurveda Medical Council states. Explaining more details about bogus practitioners, the Registrar of the Ayurvedha Medical Council Dr. Danister L. Perera said, "complaints have been received by the council against various institutions and organisations that have awarded degrees return for gratifications and these cases will be referred to the CID." Action by the Ayurveda Medical Council to arrest this situation was prompted by several reports of quacks practising, Dr. Perera said. He said, AMC will take stern action towards courses conducted without approval. The certificates awarded on completion of such courses will not be recognised by the Ayurvedha Department as well, he confirmed. "Use of such bogus degrees or doctorates for professional purposes by the quacks amount to a criminal offence." Dr. Perera added "the employment, especially of Indian ayurvedic physicians without due approval from the council is illegal. Employment of non Sri Lankan Ayurvedic practitioners should have the approval of the Ayurveda Department. If any Indian qualified Ayurvedic physicians are employed it should be certified to the Ayurveda Department." A few months ago the AMC had to take an Indian professor to task who had been practising here. The CID will come down hard on these case in the future. Finally he concluded, when such a person who is engaged in practice
violatiting the laid-down rules of the Ayurvedha Medical Council will be
referred to the Central Council of Indian Medicine through the Foreign
Ministry. |
