Illegal buffalo slaughter house raided

An illegal buffalo slaughter house at a secret location in Wisenthi
Mawatha, Madama, Payagala was raided by police last Friday and several
buffaloes, cows and calves were released, police said.
Police found the carcases of two buffaloes and eight live buffaloes,
two cows and a calf when they raided the abattoir which had functioned
secretly for several years. The total amount of meat seized was 145
kilos.
According to police stolen buffaloes and stray cattle brought from
distant places were slaughtered in the night and the meat was supplied
to the beef stalls in Aluthgama, Beruwela and Kalutara on the following
day. Around 10 buffaloes and a cattle were slaughtered daily, police
said.
The area veterinary surgeon and the Public Health Inspector, who
inspected the meat had found it unfit for human consumption. It was an
offence to slaughter buffaloes. The suspect along with seized buffalos,
cattle and the meat were handed over to the Payagala police to be
produced in Court.
