UNHCR continue support N/E resettlement
The United Nations' High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has
pledged its continuing support to the Government's resettlement programs
in the North and East.
UNHCR officials - Deputy Inspector General Tahir Ali and Senior
Program Co-ordinating Officer Nabil Othman, after a meeting with
Minister of Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services, Rishad Bathiudeen,
have assured that UNHCR would continue to support the resettlement
effort in conducting recovery programmes to ensure smooth functioning of
the day-to-day activities of the resettled people, especially in the
North and the East.
The Minister pointed out the need of 'motivation programme' to the
resettled people to enable them to uplift their livelihood. The Minister
said that over 165,000 displaced people have been resettled in 2006
through his Ministry with the support of the UNHCR office in Sri Lanka. |
