Superb century by Thilan as SSC pile up 444

CRICKET: Middle order batsman Thilan Samaraweera hit a superb 120 with one six and fifteen boundaries as SSC piled up a massive 444 runs in their first innings on the third day of their SLC Premier Trophy inter club four day Tier A league tournament match against their traditional rivals NCC continued at Maitland Place yesterday.

The 31 year old former Sri Lanka cap displayed a tremendous amount of concentration and determination while facing 179 deliveries in completing his second century in the competition. The right hander has a top score of 125 and four other half centuries which has made as the second highest run getter so far with an excellent average of 96.75.

This was after SSC had made a good start to their run chase with opener Tharanga Paranavithana and Kaushal Silva scoring half centuries. The SSC later order batsmen too made useful contributions with all rounder Dhammika Prasad scoring exactly fifty runs.

NCC trailing by a huge 171 runs then reached 95 for 2 in their second innings with opener Kanchana Gunawardena completing an unbeaten half century.

Rangana bowls Moors to victory

Leg spinner Rangana Herath snapped up six wickets for 69 to help Moors Sports Club beat Baduraliya SC outright by seven wickets with more than a day to spare in their SLC Premier Trophy inter club four day Tier A league tournament match concluded at Braybrooke Place yesterday.

Baduraliya SC: 49 and 329 (D. Witharana 71, V. Perera 60, H. Wickremaratne 83, D. Perera 20, D. Fernando 21, A. Ratnayake 37, N. Ranjith 2 for 24, C. Mudalige 2 for 52, R. Herath 6 for 69).

CCC in easy win

Left arm seamer Sujeewa de Silva grabbed five wickets for 48 to guide CCC to an easy nine wicket outright victory over Ragama CC with more than a day to spare in their SLC Premier Trophy inter club four day Tier A league tournament match conclude at Maitland Crescent yesterday.

Ragama CC: 144 and 149 (I. de Saram 40, M. Bandara 49, S. de Silva 5 for 48, N. Rupasinghe 2 for 30).

CCC: 264 and 30 for 1 (M. van Dort 23 n.o)


Chilaw Marians heading for outright win

Two magnificent centuries from opener Mahela Udawatte (168) and all rounder Gayan Wijekoon (106) put Chilaw Marians SC on course to an outright victory over Bloomfield on the third day of their SLC Premier Trophy inter club four day Tier A league match continued at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Sparking 102 by Pushpakumara

All rounder Muthumudalige Pushpakumara hammered a sparkling 102 from just 96 balls with three sixes and 14 boundaries to help Colts CC set Tamil Union a victory target of 247 runs on the third day of their SLC Premier Trophy inter club four day Tier A league tournament match continued at Havelock Park yesterday.
