Munchee National District VB C'ships start Feb 16

VOLLEYBALL: District Level matches in the Munchee National Volleyball Championships conducted by the Volleyball Federation of Sri Lanka will be worked off on February 16, 17, 23 and 24 in 20 different venues throughout the country. The tournament has attracted 2,760 teams: 1,775 (men's) and 985 (women) from twenty districts.

Anuradhapura District is fielding the highest number of teams: 407, men's 258 and women's 149, followed by Badulla District: 333 teams with 232 men's teams and 101 women's. Kandy District has entered the third highest teams of 209: men 133 and womens 76.

The other teams are from Colombo District 107 (69 men's and 38 women's), Gampaha District 67 (43 and 24) Kalutara, District 83 (47 and 36), Ratnapura District 125 (81 and 44), Kegalle District 117 (74 and 43), Moneragala District 178 (114 and 64), Polonnaruwa District 122 (81 and 41), Matale District 79 (46 and 33), Nuwara Eliya District 61 (53 and 8), Puttalam District 81 (47 and 34), Kurunegala District 179 (111 and 88), Galle District 132 (73 and 59), Matara District 203 (124 and 79), Hambantota District 141 (90 and 51), Ampara District 86 (61 and 25), Trincomalee District 33 (21 and 12) Jaffna District (17 men's team).

The Champions and runners-up teams in both men's and women's journeys will qualify to play at national level matches starting in the first week in March at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

Sri Lanaka Volleyball Federation is conducting the Munchee National Volleyball Championships on three levels as in the past two years Divisional Secretarial Level, District Level and National Level. The champions in both men's and women's will receive the Munchee Challenge Trophies.
