UNP refutes LTTE connections

Ranil - Hakeem 'Alliance' employed the underworld kingpins and LTTE terror to stop people voting for the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) at the Eastern Election yesterday, Senior Presidential Advisor, Basil Rajapaksa said.

He said that this three-party Alliance was resorting to all means of violence and other gimmicks to win the election as they foresaw a defeat. " Now it is obvious that the Ranil - Hakeem coalition received the support of the LTTE in the election", he said.

Rajapaksa told the 'Sunday Observer' that underworld kingpins from Colombo were seen near polling booths and according to information they were 'transported' from Colombo by certain UNP heavyweights. Meanwhile the UNP General Secretary, Tissa Attanayake denied the allegations of an alliance with the LTTE and employing underworld thugs at the polling booths.

"The UNP does not have any connection with the LTTE and people know who has had dealings with the LTTE.

We condemn the bomb attacks in the East and the government which claimed that the East has been fully liberated should take the responsibility of these attacks", he said.
