the Sripalee Vidyalaya theatre Horana under the aegis of
Siriliya Saviya Sanvidhanya on March 8. The chief guest was
the First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. Mrs.Kusum Wickramanayaka
wife of Premier Wickramanayaka presented the First Lady a
memento to mark the occasion. |

The Additional Solicitor General Aiyathurai Gnanathasan took
his silk as President’s Counsel recently before the Chief
Justice Sarath N. Silva and Supreme Court Judge of Sri

Deshabandu for Lions International Director
A director of International Lions Club, Biyagama South, D.M. Indunil
Dissanayake was conferred with the ‘Deshabandu’ award and gold medal at
the National Awards ceremony, held at Kandalama Hotel, Dambulla
recently.
A large number of parliamentarians including Minister of
Parliamentary Affairs, M. H. Mohamed were also present. A Post Graduate
of Kelaniya University, Dissanayake is the Chairman and the managing
director of several companies.
New Dy. President of Bar Association
Titus Manatunga has been elected as the new Deputy President of the
Bar Association succeeding. Mohan Peiris, who has been appointed as the
new Attorney-General.
Manatunga, the first person to be elected from the outstations and is
currently the Zonal Vice President and President of the Kegalle Lawyers
Association.
After passing out as an Adyacate in 1972, he took oaths in February
1973, and worked under Mr. Collin Amarasinghe former Supreme Court
Judge, Seychelles and District Judge Mt. Lavinia.
He Later joined the Attorney General’s Department as State Counsel in
1974. He reverted to the unofficial bar in 1980 and since then had been
practising in Kegalle and Kurunegala Courts.
Ma Piya Mehewara today
The `Ma Piya’ Sumithuro will conduct its 200th `Ma Piya Mehewara’
advisory program for the benefit of pregnant women at Castle Street
Maternity Hospital today, March 15.
The program was first commenced under the patronage of former Senior
Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr. L.A.W. Sirisena in Ward
No. 3 and 4 of the Castle Street Hospital in 1990.
The organising committee invites parents with their infants and
pregnant mothers to attend the opening ceremony today.
AGM on March 22
The annual general meeting of the Alumni Association of University of
Peradeniya (AAUP) will be held at 10.00 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2009
at the E.O.E. Pereira auditorium, Faculty of Engineering, University of
Peradeniya.
Chairman, Hayleys Group of Companies, N. G. Wickramaratne, a
distinguished alumnus of the University will be the chief guest. Vice
Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. H. Abeygunawardena
will be the guest of honour.
The AGM will be followed by lunch and fellowship for AAUP members and
other alumni of the University of Peradeniya.
