About ten tourists believed to be of Chinese, Japanese, Hungarian and Hong Kong nationals came under a wasp attack at Sigiriya this morning, the police said. The group was reportedly climbing the famous rock fortress when they were stung by a swarm of wasps near the Lions mouth area.

Missing white snake found

An albino Cobra went missing in the National Zoological Gardens in Dehiwala three days ago was found today in Zoo, the police said. The white snake in a pillow case was found by one of the Zoo keepers being left by an unknown person.

 

Principal arrested for harassing grade five student

The Principal of Namalwewa Primary School in Diyabeduma was arrested by the police today for harassing a grade five student for not attending the routine cleaning program held in the school, the police said.

 

Nine kilos of Heroin seized

Nine kilograms of Heroin worth over Rs.60 million was seized by the Borella Police last night, the police said.The police on information carried out a detection in Wanathamulla area and seized the narcotics along with five suspects.

A man who severed his male organ in Kalutara was admitted to Nagoda Hospital in a critical condition this afternoon, the police said.

 

Woman shot dead in Mattakkuliya

A 48-year-old woman had been shot dead by an unidentified gunman at her residence in Samithpura, in Mattakkuliya early this morning, the police said. The victim has been identified as Priyangi Melanie Kumari. She was admitted to National Hospital in a critical condition but succumbed to her wounds shortly after.

 

50 students fall sick after consuming drink

Fifty students of an international school in Piliyandala have fallen sick after consuming a drink in the canteen today, the police said. Eight of them had been admitted to Piliyandala Hospital.

 

Uva PC to be dissolved tonight

Uva Provincial Council is to be dissolved from midnight today in preparation for the on coming elections, incumbent Chief Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa told media.
