President to attend G7 Summit

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s decision to invite President Maithripala Sirisena as a guest at the G7 summit next month is a further recognition of Sri Lanka’s renewed global credibility.

 

Temporary ban on Yala safari operators

Many safari jeep private operators are temporarily banned from entering the Yala National Park, as directed by the Director General of the Department of Wildlife Conservation Sumith Pilapitiya.

 

30 new degree programs introduced

The student intake for universities has been increased by 10 percent this year and around 30 new degree programs have been introduced, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof. Mohan de Silva said.

 

Transport back to normal

Transport services will return to normal after the New Year. Chairman of the National Transport Commission M.A.P. Hemachandra said transport arrangements for the New Year ending on April 25, will continue as planned.

96 Indian and nine Lankan fishermen repatriated

The Sri Lanka Navy assisted the repatriation of 96 Indian fishermen, released from Sri Lankan custody by providing them with safe passage on board the Ranavijaya and Sri Lanka Coast Guard Vessel CG 43 yesterday.
