Foreign Ministry concerned over Solheim’s comments
The Foreign Ministry has expressed concern over
a recent comment made by Norwegian Minister Erik Solheim. The

A remarkable pay hike for CEB employees - Minister assures
Power and Energy Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne
yesterday remarked that Friday’s planned Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB)
strike was a total failure and assured the 14,000 strong CEB

Estate unions demand wage increase
Three major plantation trade unions - the Ceylon
Workers’ Congress (CWC), the Lanka Jathika Estate Workers’ Union (LJEWU)
and the Joint Plantation Trade Union Centre (JPTUC) - are to meet
the Ceylon Employers’ Federation (CEF), representing 22 Regional
Plantation Companies, tomorrow (Monday) for negotiations on a wage
increase for the plantation workers and signing of a fresh
Collective Agreement.
