Karunanidhi praises Govt. for IDP resettlement

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Muttuvelu Karunanidhi has praised the Government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa for commencing the resettlement of IDP’s from the relief villages in Vavuniya.

The Chief Minister, in a statement issued from Chennai, mentioned that two weeks ago, the combined delegation of the Tamil Nadu State Assembly and India’s Central Government had been in Sri Lanka and visited the IDP villages in Vavuniya, looking into the conditions of the IDPs.

Later, the Indian delegation had met President Rajapaksa and discussed the IDP issue with him. They had been assured by the Lankan leader that the IDPs would be settled as soon as possible. They are now happy to see that the resettlement process has started with thousands of people getting back to their original places, Karunanidhi stated. The Chief Minister has also added that the war in Sri Lanka was now over. “The war in the island for the past several years had led to continued bloodshed. With the ending of the war, let us wish that all Sri Lankans will live happily in peace,” Karunanidhi stated.
