There was an overall drop in firecracker-related
injuries reported from Colombo and suburbs during the festive season

Shinawatra’s alleged appointment:
Central Bank denies reports
The Central Bank denied media speculation about
the appointment of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra as
advisor on economic affairs to Sri Lanka. Governor Central Bank,
Ajith Nivard Cabraal said Shinawatra was not appointed in any
capacity to Sri Lanka and added that both countries had refuted the
media reports.

Over 100,000 NICs within next three weeks
Over 100,000 permanent NICs will be issued by
the Department for Registration of Persons (DRP) during the next
three weeks to reduce the issuing of temporary identity cards for
