Placing of omniscient sacred relic at Sandahiru Seya

A religious ceremony is due to be held to place an omniscient sacred relic in the hemispherical dome of the Sandahiru Seya tomorrow (23) under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Anuradhapura.

Phase three of the Sri Lanka Armys latest culinary exhibition and food festival Hela Viru Rasa Udanaya will end its three-day show, tomorrow. This festival which started on November 20 at Kadolkele stadium in Negombo has twenty three stalls set up by different regiments of the Army.

A man alleged to be a wanted underworld suspect sustained serious injuries when he was shot by a gang in Nuge Road in Peliyagoda this morning, the police said.

 

Male bodies found in river

Two unidentified male bodies had been found floating on the Mahaweli River near Polgolla Dam this morning, the police said. Kandy Police have launched an investigation on details provided by the residents of the area who spotted the bodies floating on the river.

 

Couple nabbed with gold in underwear

Brothers brutally hacked to death in Gandara

Two siblings had been brutally hacked to death with axes by a gang in Gandara on Friday night over a personal feud, the police said. The victims identified as Mahadurage Prasad Manoj Kumara (36) and Mahadurage Rasaal Wasantha Kumara (38) were living in Nawadunna area.

Police raid brothel in Maharagama

Police Organised Crimes Detection Unit on a tip off raided a brothel being run in the pretence of an Ayurvedic Massage Centre in Maharagama and arrested four sex workers, the police said.

 

Eight dead, hundreds trapped in landslide tragedy

The rescuers have found eight bodies so far whilst several hundred are still feared to be trapped under a mountain of earth that buried an entire village in Haldummulla, Badulla this morning, the police said.

STF finds arms cache, Fonseka’s posters at temple

The Special Task Force personnel recovered 54 hand grenades and two T-56 rifles from a temple in Colombo yesterday. Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara confirmed that the grenades and assault rifles were recovered from Bodhirajarama Temple in Maligawatte last evening.
