600th year commemoration stamp issue at Sunethradevi Pirivena
President Mahinda Rajapaksa will participate as the Chief Guest at
the 600th year anniversary commemoration First Day Cover and Stamp
(value of Rs. 5.00) issuing ceremony of the Sunethradevi Piriven
Rajamaha Vihara, Pepiliyana today (20th) at 3.00 p.m. on the invitation
of the Chief Incumbent of the Sunethra Mahadevi Piriven Rajamaha
Viharaya, Dr. Medagoda Abhayatissa Nayaka Thera. The new stamp depicts
King Parakramabahu VI, founder of the Sunethra Mahadevi Pirivena 1410
year. According to the Sel Lipi, it remarked that 'Parevi', 'Gira' and 'Kokila'
Sandeshas were written at this Pirivena during the history of 600 years.
A 30X60 millimetres size stamp printed at Government Printing
Department and the stamp designed with visual creation lay out and
illustration by stamp designer Sanath Rohana Wickramasinghe on behalf of
the Philatelic Bureau of Sri Lanka Post.
Post and Telecommunication Minister, Jeevan Kumaratunga, Secretary of
the Ministry, Asoka Jayasekara and Deputy Postmaster General, R. P. G.
Gamini will grace the Occasion.
