Jaffna red onion farmers penetrate Dambulla market

Red onion farmers from Jaffna now bring their harvest directly to the Dambulla Economic Centre. Due to this they are up on the deal and have greater satisfaction too, said Dambulla Economic Development Society Chairman U.R. Dayanandasiri.More than 100,000 kilos of onion are brought to the Dambulla Economic Centre daily from Jaffna.

Due to the prevailing peaceful situation, the Jaffna red onion farmers are able to market their products directly in the Dambulla Economic Centre without the mediation of a third person.

A kilo of red onion is purchased from farmers in Jaffna at a price between Rs. 20 and Rs. 30, but is sold at a price between Rs. 40 and Rs. 55 directly by the farmers at the Dambulla Economic Centre.
