The Eagles’ hits continue to rock with: Faithful recreations

6 November, 2016

“I was standing

All alone against the world outside

You were searching for a place to hide

Lost and Lonely

Now you’ve given me the will to survive

When we’re hungry love will keep us alive”

The song received a thunderous applause!..

While the cynical minded critics may dismiss tribute bands as ‘copyists’ for the fast-food generation, The Long Run - The Eagles Tribute Band proved their detractors wrong. Their concert last month at the BMICH was an experience in itself. The group, according to the blurbs is a compilation of some of South Florida’s finest and most respected musicians, who reproduce the sound that made The Eagles ‘one of the most successful bands in Rock and Roll history.’

The show they put on at the BMICH presented by DK Promotions was just short of the real thing. They took you back in time with their performance. They captured the energy, the vocal melodies, the lush harmonies and the rich instrumental arrangements with ease, never once slipping on the notes. If you closed your eyes you could hear Glen Frey or Don Henley singing with warmth that in a rock and roll era was enticing. With The Long Run it was not just standing and singing, dynamic movements were thrown in. Especially the drummer, bay! He had some energy hitting hard on the snare and singing his heart out never faltering. We heard after the show that he was the brother of Chicago’s Peter Cetera and his name is Kevin.

The whole The Eagles package was there. With a continuous backdrop of The Eagles performances, The Long Run kicked off their show with ‘Take It Easy’, moved into ‘Lying Eyes’, a Joe Walsh song with keyboard backing, ‘One of These Nights’, the popular song with Sri Lankan audiences – ‘Love Will Keep Us Alive’, Tequila Sunrise, New Kid in Town and James Dean which was a pleasant surprise and I’m glad they sang it. That was not all! The group went into ‘Desperado’ and of course the highlight of The Eagles successful career the mystical ‘Hotel California’, where you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave!

A word of appreciation to Janith Gamlath on saxophone. He jelled like a member of The Long Run.

Undoubtedly the audience was mainly those who have grown up with the sound of The Eagles, and who with no restriction sang the favourites along with the band, to the delight of the members. After painstaking preparation rehearsing a long list of The Eagles chart topping hits, The Long Run has won over audiences not only across USA with their authentic live performances but also in Sri Lanka.

According to the grapevine the band has expressed a wish to come back for a performance in our country and we hope it will be a reality soon! They thought we Asians didn’t know their songs!!

Comments

Hi! I just want to say thank you to Mahes Perera for your Nov. 6 review of our show there last month at the BMICH, and in particular, your comments about me! However, I *would* like to make a couple corrections for your readers. First, our group, The Long Run - Experience The Eagles, is based in Los Angeles, CA., not Florida. We would absolutely LOVE to return to Sri Lanka to perform again and I think there is some planning for that in the works! And, oh yeah, secondly, my name is Kenny, not Kevin, although there is a Kevin in the group. :) (He's one of our sexy, long haired guitar players!) Most sincerely, Kenny Cetera
