Sri Lanka clinches Veterans Over 40 football title in Dubai

The Sri Lanka over 40 Veterans football team won the International Veterans Football tournament held in Dubai yesterday. South Africa, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius Islands were amongst the teams that participated in the tournament. In the finals Sri Lanka beat Mauritius by three goals to nil.

Sri Lanka managed to beat all teams except Dubai in the initial rounds. Dubai scored a 1-0 win over Sri Lanka. Ex-Vice President of Sri Lanka Football Federation and chairman of City League Football, R. Puvanendran also joined the team bearing his expenses personally.

Sri Lanka was the runner-up in the previous tournaments held in Malaysia during 2007 and 2013, Mauritius in 2012 and South Africa in 2015.

The team was led by Priyantha Liyanage from Saunders SC. Members and representatives of the Sri Lankan Veterans football team comprised; R. Puvanendran, Priyantha Perera, Anura Sampath, Maxi Letern, Krishantha Abeysekara, Mohamad Fasal, Dhammika Athukorala, Anton Silva, Jagath Rohan, Bandara Gunathilake Haneef Lukman, Nishantha Kumara, Joseph Shanthi Kumara, Jayashantha Liyanage, Sampath Perera, Young Park, Thuan Sahurdeen, Mohamad Imthizam, Karupaiah Ramar, Mohamed Ishamudeen, Feroze Inam (Manager) and Mohamad Faiz (coach).
