Two arrested for murder

Mirihana Police Special Crimes Investigation Unit on Friday arrested two people suspected of shooting to death underworld figure Tanil Bandara Dharmasri on January 17.

While the duo are being interrogated by the Police, investigating officers have recovered a mobile phone, a Sim card and a motorcycle that is believed to have been used to commit the murder. The suspects, aged 29 and 24 are residents of Kaduwela.

Tanil Bandara Dharmasri was shot at a saloon in Athurugiriya. Mirihana Police are carrying out further investigations.

Motorcyclist killed

A motorcyclist travelling from Daladagama to Madagalla was killed on Friday night when he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into an iron fence at the Mahawa railway crossing. The motorcyclist and pillion rider suffered severe injuries and were admitted to the Mahawa District Hospital.

The motorcyclist who was later admitted to the Kurunegala hospital for further treatment, succumbed to his injuries. The deceased, 21-year-old Asanka Thusitha Pathirana was a resident of Udapola, Polgahawela. Mahawa Police are carrying out further investigations to determine the cause of the accident.
