Mysterious killing in Warakapola: Police make breakthrough

Warakapola Police yesterday succeeded in solving the mysterious killing of a man in Ethnawala, Warakapola area on Thursday night. Investigations have revealed that the victim had been abducted by a vigilante group who had been on the lookout for a suspected thief after a number of thefts were reported in the area.

The Police say the group had abducted the man and assaulted him which had resulted in his death. Realizing the man had died after being assaulted, the abductors had then dumped the man’s body in Ethnawala, Warakapola where it was later found by the Police. While the members of the group have now been identified, the Police claim the groups have fled the area.

The deceased, a 32-year-old male from Katugastota had been employed at a poultry farm Pasyala at the time of his untimely death. On Thursday, the victim had left his place of employment around 7 p.m. He left his rented residence around 11 pm to go home for the weekend.

According to the Police they believe the man had been abducted, thereafter, and assaulted. The body of the victim was found with his hands tied on Friday morning and was later identified by his relatives.

An investigation team led by Warakapola Police OIC, Chief Inspector H.H. Janakantha are now on the hunt for the suspects.
