Trespasser arrested

A man who had attempted to trespass into President Maithripala Sirisena’s official residence was arrested yesterday morning by the President’s Security Division (PSD). According to sources the person was arrested by security personnel at the checkpoint when he had attempted to enter the premises around 9.30 a.m. yesterday. Police say the suspect identified as Dhanuka Vishwajith had claimed he was a former UPFA member of the Kotte Municipal Council from 2011 to 2016 and had wanted to meet the President in search of an employment opportunity. The suspect was later handed over to the Cinnamon Gardens Police station by the PSD for further investigations and questioning. Cinnamon Gardens Police are carrying out further investigations into the incident.

The suspect was also arrested previously for a case of domestic abuse by the Welikada Police which was later withdrawn at the request of his spouse.
