Kandy SC crowned themselves as Kings of the local rugby world when they finished the Dialog ‘A’ division league rugby tournament in a flourish with a ruthless performance against the hapless CH&FC side whom they beat by 59 points (7 goals, 2 tries) to 3 (1 penalty) at the Racecourse grounds yesterday.

Kandy had already assured themselves of the title last week with their win over Havelock SC and yesterday’s game was only of academic interest.. At the end of the match Kandy SC were awarded the Dialog league champions trophy by Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera.

Kandy who led 26-3 at half time dominated possession for large periods of the game and were strong, fast and ruthless which the Maitland Crescent club failed to match. They lacked the finesse and finishing touch to get the job done.

Kandy enjoyed some good advantage in territory and went onto dominate the game overall. CH were unsettled and their game lacked momentum. Nothing went right their way although they have shown improvement over the last few games.

Kandy had ample ball coming their way from their forwards and back division. They played with confidence and paced out the game very well. Their forwards played ferociously and their three-quarters ran the ball well.

The try scorers for Kandy were Shehan Pathirana, Srimath Bandara and Lavanga Perera (2 tries each), Arshad Jamaldeen, Anuruddha Willaweera and Danusha Ranjan (one each). Jamaldeen goaled six and Sashika Jayawardene three. For CH Shamli Buhra put over the solitary penalty. Referee: Aruna Shantha.
