Mathews ruled out of BD Tests

26 February, 2017

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews has been ruled out of next month’s two-Test series against Bangladesh at home.

Mathews is recovering from a hamstring injury that cut short his tour of South Africa and forced him to return home. A SLC media release states that Mathews may be available for the one-day

series against Bangladesh that follows afterwards.

The national selection committee is due to meet on Tuesday (February 28) to pick the squad for the two Tests at Galle and P Sara Oval. In Mathew’s absence for the tour of Zimbabwe, veteran bowler Rangana Herath was appointed captain. Dinesh Chandimal, the vice-captain who is also

recovering from an injury and Upul Tharanga who filled the void as captain when Mathews and Chandimal were both ruled out of the South African one-day series are the front runners to captain Sri Lanka in the two Tests against Bangladesh.
