Singer ‘A’ division inter-school league rugby : Joes give Royal a torrid time before losing

Scintillating brand of rugby was dished out by both the teams where Royal College emerged victorious edging out fighting St. Joseph’s College Maradana by 28 points (3 tries, 2 conversions, 2 penalties, 1 drop goal) to 22 (4 tries, 1 conversion) in their Singer ‘A’ division inter-school league rugby match played at the Royal Sports Complex yesterday. The winners led 8-5 at the breather.

It was an awesome performance dished out by both Royal and St Joseph’s displaying fabulous fast open rugby throughout the entire game. Royal totally dominated the set pieces through their heavy forwards while the Josephians combined effectively with their entire speedy three quarter line and totally dominated and overran the Royalist three quarters throughout the entire second half where they scored three superb back to back tries.

For Royal the tries were scored by hooker Hamza Barrie (one), winger Deshan Perera (one) and vice captain cum co-winger Shabith Feroz (one). The two conversions and the two penalties were fired across by scrum half Shakir Naufer. The solitary drop goal was put over by captain and fly half Ovin Askey.

Winger Shan Akila (one), number eight Gihan Madushanka (one), scrum half Channa Ashoka (one) and co-winger cum captain Vinul Fernando (one) scored the tries for the Josephians. Fly half Chathura Seneviratne put over the solitary conversion.
