This year 2017, it is a landmark for Country Roads. Their 29th anniversary show will feature besides their usual participants, the Sri Lankan born Keith Potger of The Seekers fame. Internationally we all know how The Seekers made an extraordinary impact on the global music scene, gathering hit after hit, making a music statement that could not be easily rivalled. The members of The Seekers were Athol Grey, Bruce Woodley, Judith Durham and Keith Potger. At the outset of their career, The Seekers released I’ll Never Find Another You which turned out to be an overwhelming success for them.

On one of his visits to Sri Lanka with his mother, Keith Potger was asked, to what extent Sri Lanka influenced him, his music, his beliefs and his life. He said that Sri Lanka provoked in him a positive attitude which got reflected in his life. One such example was the song, Island Nights, and he is reported to have remarked that he was influenced by Buddhist teachings.

At the Country Roads concert the other performers will be the Mavericks Duo, Astrid Brooks and Cosmic Rays, and the whole will come alive at the Mount Lavinia Hotel on Sunday March 19 from 6.30 p.m. onwards. The Concert is in aid of Meth Mihira, a Special Education School in Koralawella, Moratuwa, which is run by the Sisters of Charity. The other charity is the Children’s Heart Project of Sri Lanka. - Mahes
