Cyclist killed in Negombo

A cyclist and his passenger met with an accident yesterday when a lorry plying from Chilaw to Colombo knocked them down near the Depot junction in Negombo. The duo was admitted to the Negombo District Hospital where one of the injured later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Lorry has been arrested by the Police. Negombo Police are carrying out further investigations into the incident.

Illegal cigarettes

A woman was arrested on Friday along with a stock of illegally imported cigarettes in Walasmulla by the Tangalle narcotics unit. The woman at the time had 10,800 cigarettes in her possession. The suspect is a 40 year old female from Yakgasmulla, Weeraketiya. Tangalle Police are carrying out further investigations into the incident.

Robbers nabbed

Wellawaya Police nabbed six people suspected to have made away with plant seeds and property from several agriculture shops in the Moneragala district. The Police apprehended the suspects in Damana and Ampara on Friday while confiscating property which was in their possession at the time. The suspects are said to be aged 31, 34, 37, 42 43 and 50 and are residents of Damana, Ampara and Dambagalla. According to the Police is has been revealed the organized gang had committed similar robberies in many areas around the country.

Student missing

A 16 year old student of Dharmaraja College, Kandy went missing on Friday while swimming with a group of friends in the Mahaweli River. The students has been bathing near the Halloluwa area in the Katugastota Police division disregarding many warnings displayed when the missing student had experienced some difficulties and gone missing. The missing student has been identified as Mudalige Dilanga Randika Mudalige, resident of Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe Mawatha, Kandy. Navy divers from the Thalathuoya Navy camp are conducting a search for the missing student.
