‘Clash Of The Titans’ in Nuwara Eliya

The sun is shining upon little England, which is soon to be the venue for the ‘Clash of The Titans’, The annual Spring Horse racing festival. Once called the Sport of Kings, the Royal Turf Club estimates that between 45-50 Thoroughbreds will be participating in the races to be held on 2nd April, 16th April and 29th April.

This Season will see the Participation of several new owners Dr. M. Dhanawardene Guruge, Mr. Haseeb Mohamed, Ms. Renuka Damayanti and Charini Suriyage among others, ably challenged by Ms. Eresha’s Fearless Stables which placed an all-time record by winning the first ever race it participated in Sri Lanka with the unbeatable Honorius.

Commenting on the Races RTC CEO Wayne Wood stated that Races Commence on all days at 10 am and scheduled to end at 2 pm. It is estimated that 6 to 7 races will be held on each day. He also stated that following through with RTC’s Zero Tolerance policy against animal Cruelty and full commitment to animal welfare, all races will be tested for doping as usual by the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping agency. Vet Doctor Jeyentra Balaji stated that RTC has taken further steps in that direction, with the importation of Sri Lanka’s very first horse Ambulance, at a great cost, which now compliments the Equine Hospital, another first in Sri Lanka.
